Recently, I had the opportunity to combine videography and photography while working on a unique project. A student approached me to document their school economics project on the topic of fast fashion. This assignment involved handheld video shooting, behind-the-scenes (BTS) coverage, and still photography, making it both a creative and educational experience for me.
The Project
The focus of the project was fast fashion—an important and timely topic exploring its economic, social, and environmental impacts. My role was to help bring the student’s ideas to life visually by capturing dynamic videos and high-quality photos across multiple locations. It was exciting to see how they presented their research and arguments with passion and creativity.
Experimenting with Videography
This experience allowed me to delve deeper into handheld videography, which brought its own set of challenges and learning moments. From stabilizing the camera to adjusting settings for different lighting conditions, every shot required focus and adaptability. I experimented with various angles, movements, and camera settings to make the footage engaging and visually appealing.
Behind-the-Scenes Moments
Capturing the BTS moments added a layer of storytelling to the project. Documenting the student in action, setting up their materials, and explaining their work created a narrative that complemented the main footage. These candid moments not only enhanced the overall project but also gave the student a keepsake of their hard work.
Adapting to Different Locations
Shooting across multiple locations kept things interesting and required me to adapt quickly to new environments. Whether it was adjusting to natural lighting outdoors or managing artificial light indoors, each setting provided an opportunity to learn and refine my skills. These adjustments were crucial for ensuring consistency and quality in both the photos and videos.
Lessons Learned
This project reinforced the importance of experimentation in creative work. Trying out different videography techniques and camera settings expanded my skill set and deepened my understanding of visual storytelling. It also reminded me of the value of collaboration—working with the student allowed me to align my visuals with their vision and message.
Wrapping Up
By the end of the project, I felt a sense of accomplishment in helping the student bring their economics project to life. Capturing the essence of their work and learning new techniques along the way was a rewarding experience.
If you’re working on a creative project or need visual content to tell your story, I’d love to collaborate. Let’s create something meaningful together!
